After President Biden dropped out of the 2024 campaign and elevated his Vice President, Kamala Harris, as the presumptive Democratic nominee, supporters of Donald Trump started attacking her as a "DEI hire."
For example, during an interview with CNN’s Manu Raju, Republican Rep. Tim Burchett said this: "100 percent, she was a DEI hire." He's not only one pushing this narrative.
When one person calls another a "DEI hire," they mean they are unqualified, unskilled, and hired only because of their race. They say it because they cannot say publicly what they really want to say.
If you hear someone in your workplace call someone else as a "DEI hire," you need to step in and stop it, immediately. It's offensive. It's hostile. It's discriminatory. And it's wrong.
DEI isn't about hiring unqualified Black people to take jobs away from qualified white people. It's about making sure that all qualified people of all backgrounds have the same opportunity to compete for the same jobs so that they can be considered as the "most qualified" and get hired, and then ensuring they all feel welcomed and belonging after they are hired.
If you're in favor of hiring the "most qualified person," then you're pro-DEI. If you say otherwise, it's for another more nefarious reason.
